You know what this is? This is our first ‘official’ Norwescon 37 post!
It’s just over a week until the start of Norwescon 37, which is April 17th through the 20th. It’s been confirmed that four GeekyLibrary Crew members will be attending at least one day of the con, and we’re excited to hang out with hundreds of other geeks.
So be prepared for upcoming blog posts and tweets all about the event. And if you’re attending, meet up with us!
Why Norwescon?
With so many amazing cons happening all over all year, why do we focus our attention on Norwescon? The answer only partly has to do with location. We are based in the Pacific Northwest.
More importantly, although sci-fi and fantasy is present in a myriad of entertainment mediums, Norwescon maintains a literary focus. We love the movies, games, TV shows, etc just like you, but we are a book review site after all.
This extends to their outreach as well– Norwescon is a sponsor of the 2014 Locus Awards banquet (the Locus Awards are an annual set of literary awards presented by Locus: The Magazine of the Science Fiction & Fantasy Field) and donates a scholarship to Clarion West (an intensive six-week workshop for writers preparing for professional careers in science fiction and fantasy)
Philip K. Dick Award
Norwescon also hosts the annual award ceremony for the Philip K. Dick award for distinguished science fiction. Our group of reviewers has now read all 7 of the 2013 nominees (reviews coming soon).
A panel of judges will select one book and announce the winner on April 18th… and we’ll be there!
Special Surprise
We’ve been cooking up something just for this event. Details are coming soon, but it involves the word free.
While you’re at Norwescon, make sure to follow our Twitter account (@GeekyLibrary) and follow our blog for updates. If you see the blog post banner, you’ll know you’re in the right place.
