So while fellow GeekyLibrary crew member Taylor was enjoying NorWesCon, I spent my weekend schlepping boxes and furniture down 3 flights of stars while moving into a new house.

Despite that, I took a break from moving to discover who the Philip K. Dick Award Winner  was and to tune into the announcement of the Hugo Award nominees.

"Lost Everything" cover

We read and discussed all seven of the 2012 Philip K. Dick award nominees and are quite happy with the award going to Lost Everything by Brian Francis Slattery, which reviewer Taylor gave 5 stars.

The book is very deserving of acclaim, although for our own purposes, we are not quite sure if it is geeky.

The announcement of the Hugo Award nominees was also exciting. Being who we are, we were most interested in the nominees for the Hugo Award for Best Novel.

Personally, I was ecstatic when I heard that Redshirts by John Scalzi was one of the books nominated. Hey! I’ve read that! It’s totally geeky!Redshirts

In addition to Redshirts, the other nominees were 2312 by Kim Stanley Robinson, Blackout by Mira Grant, Captain Vorpatril’s Alliance by Lois McMaster Bujold and Throne of the Crescent Moon by Saladin Ahmed.

After the seven nominees the GeekyLibrary Crew read for the Philip K. Dick Award, only four nominees (having already read and reviewed Redshirts) seems like an easy task… so perhaps we’ll be doing that…. Some of the nominees in the other literary categories also look fascinating.
